Moonlight

While channel surfing a month ago, I came across a show that seemed quite intriguing. I had seen previews of it prior, but they didn't catch too much of my attention. The show is Moonlight on CBS. It's a story about Mick St. John. He's a vampire. He's handsome, charismatic, and exciting. He is a private investigator and tries to keep us mortal people safe. He is not happy about his vampire status and the way he was changed.

I'm not sure why the idea of a handsome blood sucker show is so appealing. For that matter, why did I devour each of the Stephenie Meyer's Twilight books days after they became available?

I suppose there is no need to try to understand why I take delight in vampire stories. For now I'll just keep enjoying them.

Marie Antoinette

My friend Heidi and I were both so excited to the new movie Marie Antoinette staring Kirsten Dunst. We planned the movie night a month in advance and bought our tickets a day early to ensure we would have seats. I watched the movie trailer several times and was so excited to finally see the show. With a story line that's already written by history, costumes that dazzle the eyes and talented actors and actresses, how could they (the movie producers) go wrong? I'll tell you where they went wrong.

In an attempt to show show their artistic side, the audience is left watching a two hour movie that has only about 10 minutes of dialogue, an over abundance of boring day to day tediousness, and frolics through countless gardens. With the lack of dialogue, the audience is also left wondering who all these people on screen are, and where they fit in the story.

30 minutes into the movie, I turned to Heidi and whispered, "Does it seem to you that they wasted a great deal of film?" Her response was, "I'm afraid so."

If you like the movie Castaway with Tom Hanks, perhaps you'll enjoy this movie.

"The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" upcoming movie has a new web site. You can explore Narnia and get some of the history, in case you forgot much of it from the books. There is even a quiz with a question from each book to test your knowledge. I got 4 our of 7 right.

Charlie and Chocolate Factory has recently put out a teaser. Johnny Depp's hair and teeth really creap me out in this teaser.

Mean Girls

Last night I saw the movie Mean Girls staring Lindsay Lohan. This movie was so fun. It was like reliving high school again. Although the movie exaggerated and dramatized the gossip and cruelty of high school girls, the tactics were quite fun to watch. There was the gossip, girls undermining their friends and enemies, girls stealing boyfriends, girls being submissive because their told, girls following the most ridiculous trends, girls eager to be accepted, girls allowing one person to direct and dictate them, and the list goes on. It's sad that during the high school years, this is such an expected standard for girls to behave. Do guys have to deal with this?
It wasn't just bad behavior that made this movie enjoyable, it was the fact that there were lessons to be learned. Everyone falls victim to the rumors and gossip. No matter how good you are, someone will talk bad about you.
It makes me think that even us adults have quite a bit to learn from these lessons.

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

Disney has decided to put this book to screen. It's scheduled to be released Christmas 2005. As of mid April, casting for the new movie "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe began. In one article, they asked for men and women under 5' and men men and women over 6'4". So far they have Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and James McAvoy as Tumnus the faun.

Filming is to begin late June. It will be interesting to see who gets to play the part of the 4 kids.

Meet the Fockers

A Sequel to "Meet the Parents" will be made. The title? "Meet the Fockers". Barbara Streisand and Dustin Hoffman might play the parts of Mr and Mrs Focker.

This could be interesting.

Hot stars

According to MNS Entertainment stars like Viggo Mortensen, Orlando Bloom, and Hugh Jackman are going to score big time this year.

I like how they describe Hugh Jackman as having, "the easygoing charm of Cary Grant, the song-and-dance moves of Fred Astaire, and the graciousness of Jimmy Stewart". I hope this isn't an exaggerated compliment. And although two of the LOTR stars are making it big, the article says Elijah Wood isn't going to join in this A-list popular party. What a shame.

Those who are to have a decline in popularity are Britney Spears (duh, like we couldn't see this coming) and Tom Cruise (right, like I'm going to believe he could possibly loose some of the starlight).

I personally hope to see a few new faces pop up this year and make it big. Even though I just adore seeing Tom Cruise and Mel Gibson in movies, a fresh face is a breath of fresh air.

LOTR Blunders

I'm the sort of person who likes to believe a person is innocent, but I also despise the idea of a person getting away with bad stuff just because their a celebrity.

Another Mormon Movie

This time it's called Pride & Prejudice A Latter-day comedy. Jason Faller is the producer of this Jane Austen calssic. He says, "It's not an inside Mormon joke. It has a market," Fuller said. " 'Pride and Prejudice' has a huge following. It's kind of like 'Star Wars' for women."

At first I was a little prejudice at the thought of another remake, but after reading the article I'm convinced that it might be worth seeing.

The Count of Monte Cristo

I recently finished the book “Count of Monte Cristo” by Alexandre Dumas. The story was quite entertaining, and held my interest from the very beginning.
I was Expecting the story to be somewhat close to the 2002 movie staring James Caviezel, but found the movie quite altered from the book. Knowing that the story must have been made into several movies throughout the years, I turned to the public library to look for hope. It turns out that there are at least 6 different versions available made in 1912, 1934, 1971, 1974, 1999 & 2002. It may take several weeks to view the different versions, but this weekend I was able to view the 1974 version starting Richard Chamberlain. The first half of this version is very accurate. The second half took so many wrong turns, it was beyond disappointing.

I am convinced that to truly make this story in a way that will allow Alexandre Dumas to rest peacefully, it must be a 6-12 hour video.

Lord Of The Rings

I've read the books, but I still tend to get lost in Tolkien's world. I found some information that is quite useful. You can refresh your memory on the different people and their roles, the creatures and view maps. Here is another site that as it gives some additional information that makes Tolkien's world even more magical.

Hidalgo

Viggo Mortensen will star in the movie Hidalgo, a movie based on an autobiography by Frank T. Hopkins. Viggo plays the part of Frank who is an American cowboy with a horse named Hidalgo. They are invited to ride in a 3,000 mile survival race through the Arabian Desert.

The movie will be out in October, and I honestly believe the wait might drive me mad.
